Green City Wars
I recently picked up a novel by Adrian Tchikovsky on Netgalley called “Green City Wars.” “In the solar cities of the future, the humans relax in the sun and the animals work in the shadows. Genetically engineered Little Helpers, serving humanity—unseen, unheard.” I did not know what to expect, since I am not really into adult noir stories. However, I really enjoyed listening to this book.
The story follows a raccoon named Skotch, who is a PI. Skotch is hired to find a missing mouse. He has no idea why the mouse is missing or why every little animal is looking for him. It is such an interesting story. In this alternate world, the story shows how humans create animals that can act, talk, and exist just like humans. Of course, the animals exist to cater to humans.
Since the animals are sentient beings, they also have hierarchies. Some characters are good, some are bad. Skotch is just trying to make some money and be able to survive in this underground city since he became a freelancer.
The story is very entertaining, and the author does a great job of building this amazing underground world of talking animals. I enjoyed following Skotch around, trying to find this missing mouse. The ending did not disappoint, and I would like to see more stories about this futuristic world.
